Ten kilometres north of Perth's CBD, the residential suburb of Stirling is within walking distance of such fine beaches as Trigg, Scarborough and North Beach.

Stirling is bordered on the west side by one of Australia's most picturesque city golf courses, Lake Karrinyup Golf Course, which is widely acknowledged as Perth"s best private club.

Apart from the waterway from which it takes its name, the course also encircles Lake Gwelup and golfers share the tranquil botanical and wildlife haven with several species of native birds and numerous kangaroos. The lush couch fairways and manicured bent grass greens are set in gentle, sandy hills surrounded by magnificent gardens designed so that plant species are flowering in all seasons, but most notably in spring when WA"s famous wildflowers abound.

The huge lake comes into play quite often, especially on the 475m par five third hole, and smaller lakes and many creative bunkers add to the hilly challenge of this sensational course.

Directly to the north of Stirling is the big Careniup Swamp which combines with the golf course lakes to provide important wetland habitats for birdlife. The Mitchell Freeway, which links with the city, makes Stirling just a few minutes' drive from Perth"s CBD.
