Lang Lang

Together with Koo-wee-rup to the north, the village of Lang Lang on the eastern coast of Western Port shares the distinction of being at the centre of the largest asparagus growing region in the southern hemisphere.

Lang Lang, which lies just off the South Gippsland Highway 85km south-east of Melbourne, also services beef cattle farmers and hosts a popular rodeo held every Easter.

The township is just three kilometres from the coast and good swimming and fishing beaches, while the local Bunyip River"s resident mullet and luderick also attract their share of anglers.

Fore more than 40 years, every new Holden model has had to pass muster on the GMH"s Lang Lang proving ground before release on the Australian car market. Over that time, test drivers and engineers have clocked up more than 120 million kilometres in evaluating and testing more than 450 prototype vehicles at the Lang Lang facility which houses Australia"s most comprehensive vehicle safety laboratory.

Lang Lang is within a comfortable drive of the Phillip Island Nature Park which lies at the entrance to Western Port and which is connected to the mainland by a bridge linking San Remo and Newhaven. Home to the most photographed fairy penguins in Australia, Phillip Island is a year-round destination for fishermen, bushwalkers and those who just want to get far away from the madding crowd.
