Korumburra

Established in 1887, Korumburra was the centre of the black coal mining in the South Gippsland.

Although mining has long ceased, the town is still one of the major communities in this scenic area and is home to one of Victoria's largest outdoor living museums, Coal Creek Heritage Village.

The village invites you to experience the drama of a coal mine explosion, sense the power of an authentic water wheel, take a ride on a bush tram and to try your hand at milking a cow. Coal Creek also features a colonial court house, railway station, general store and a bush cricket oval.

The South Gippsland Information Centre is based in Korumburra and its staff will advise visitors on what to see and do and where to stay in the district.

The local attractions include the South Gippsland Tourist Railway train and local arts and craft workshops such as Quilter's Barn and Gooseneck Pottery. You will also discover that Korumburra is home to the world's largest earth worm. The largest recorded Korumburra worm was four metres long with a diameter of more than two centimetres.
