Picnicking and water sports are part of the way of life on the Cobram stretch of the Murray River which is distinguished by wide sandy beaches. Water skiers, however, get a run for their money from anglers who are drawn to this section of the Murray by the promise of catches of cod, bream and yellowbelly.

Cobram is the state's stone fruit capital and the harvest is celebrated by the Peaches and Cream Festival held every Australia Day.

This is also wine-sipping territory. Tyrrell's Heritage Farm, which boasts a 115-metre wood-carving of early Murray River scenes, is 5 kilometres west of town, while Kramner Wines lie just east of Cobram and Monichino Wineries to the south.

For something a little different, pay a visit to the Spikes and Blooms cactus farm at nearby Strathmerton.

The local stretches of the river are graced with swimmer-friendly sandy beaches shaded by majestic river red gums. Pick of the town beaches are Thompsons, Big Tom"s and Little Tom"s which are popular among swimmers, kayakers, anglers and casual bushwalkers.
