Griffith, like other inner Canberra suburbs, is handy to all the national buildings in the capital. There are also several interesting, privately-owned galleries in the area to keep the likes of the National Gallery of Australia and the National Library up to the mark.

While the National Gallery"s major responsibility is to tell the Australian story through both Aboriginal and European art, it does own a significant international collection which boasts some of the great paintings of the 20th century, including Blue Poles, one of the major works of the American genius, Jackson Pollock.

The problems of the generation gap can be overcome by dropping the children off at Questacon in the National Science and Technology complex. Mind you, some adults will be happy to spend the day with the kids.

The indoor and outdoor restaurants in the nearby suburbs of Manuka and Kingston have a reputation for serving fine food.
